Micron Industries Corporation
In 1966, Micron Sealing Corporation, a formulator of epoxy materials, acquired Armitage Electronics, a manufacturer of electrical coils. The coils were sold to transformer companies for use in their products. Micron Sealing continued these two basic businesses until 1971 when the epoxy business was sold. With the knowledge of epoxy construction and coil manufacturing, Micron Sealing developed the industry’s first epoxy encapsulated machine tool transformer, receiving a patent for the ImperviTRAN design. The company became Micron Industries Corporation in 1972, and was located in the Chicago suburb of Stone Park, relocating in 1989 to a 38,000 square foot facility
in the nearby Hillside, Illinois. Continued growth forced a move to a 70,000 square foot facility in Elmhurst, a suburb near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. In an effort to expand capacity while providing a redundant manufacturing capability, Micron opened a second facility in Sterling, Illinois on December 15, 2006.

This is accomplished through the implementation of lean processes, continuous review, and design optimization, resulting in less waste, shorter lead times and increased customer satisfaction. As a result of its commitment to total customer value, Micron has become known in the industry as a leader in product quality, design innovation and customer service.
When first introduced, ImperviTRAN featured a proprietary encapsulated design that revolutionized the transformer market. Although other transformer manufacturers have since copied its encapsulated design, ImperviTRAN remains the industry leader based upon consistent high quality and other industry “firsts” including integral secondary fuse clips, molded barrier terminals and primary fuse blocks.
Micron’s market leadership was further enhanced in 1997 with the introduction of its GlobalTRAN line of control transformers. Designed specifically for international applications, GlobalTRAN is CE marked for compliance with current IEC/EN standards and meets IEC 529 IP20 standards when furnished with optional touch-proof terminal.
In response to input received from our customers, Micron again expanded its product offering in 1998 to include low voltage general purpose (LVGP) and buck-boost transformers. This product expansion fit well with Micron’s channel marketing strategy, since both LVGP and buck boost transformers are a staple product offering of electrical istributors.
Today, Micron provides a full product line of LVGP transformers, both single and three phase, ranging in size from 50VA to 750KVA. Micron provides buck boost transformers in single and three phase configurations, ranging in size from 50VA to 7.5KVA. These products complement Micron’s comprehensive control transformer product offerings with voltages up to 5KVA.
Micron transformers are UL Listed and CSA Certified, and meet or exceed the standards established by National Electrical Manufacturers Association NEMA and American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
Micron is an associate member of National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED), National Electrical Manufacturers Representative Association (NEMRA), The Transformer Association (TTA) and Illinois Manufacturers’ Association (IMA).
In addition, employees of Micron are members of various professional associations, including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., (IEEE), Institute for Supply Management (ISM), American Society for Quality (ASQ), and American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS).
